Saimaa is a pure and peaceful lake with thousands of treasure islands. Just moving there is a memorable experience as such but additionally there’s lot to do and see during boat tours. You will find signs of the Ice Age, prehistoric people or war history. You can fish or pick berries and mushrooms. On our private boat tours you can do and see different things.
The islands are rich of berries and mushrooms, because many people do not own a boat. Which could be more elegant than picking up pure berries and mushrooms and preparing them for eating on the beautiful beach.
Saimaa was born gradually after the last Ice Age 10 000 years ago and signs of it are seen during the tour.
After the Ice Age, people began to live at lakeshore. Seeing the rock paintings takes us back to the Stone age.
Lake Saimaa has been a significant environment in many wars. As signs of it there are war channels which was built on Alexander Suvorov’s command during the Swedish and Russian War 1741-1743.
During the Second World War 1941, Finland was preparing against the Soviet Union attack by building a 1200km long fortress line. Strategic fortifications were also built on Saimaa Islands.
